Happy New Year! Welcome to my first Marin real estate market report for 2018. I hope you all had a wonderful, restful holiday season, and are filled with the hope and optimism that a new year brings. There's a lot of news this month so let's get right to it.

San Rafael Real Estate Spotlight: San Rafael’s 10 Most Expensive Homes Sold in 2017

2017 was a great year for sellers in Marin and we saw a lot of movement in the upper end of the market in all areas of the county. San Rafael in particular made great strides in the high end market this year. For years, I have heard other real estate agents say that homes priced greater than $2mm in San Rafael will be a "tough sell." This past year certainly proved that this is no longer the case.

Marin County Real Estate Market Report December 2017 | Trends & Market News

Welcome to my final Marin County Real Estate Market Report of 2017! What a year it has been. We have seen the national trend of low home inventories also impact the SF Bay Area which has continued to push pricing ever higher. Even the normally quieter coastal market has awakened, with my listing 125 Calle del Sol (pictured below) selling last month, and Sea Arches going into escrow, due to close this month.

California Earthquake Insurance | Should You Buy It?

Friends and clients often ask me “Do you have earthquake insurance?” so I thought it might be a good idea to write a blog article about this topic. Insurance is one of those things we pay for and hope we never need to use. However watching the recent weather-related calamities in Texas and Florida, as well as the fires just to our north and the fires this week in the Los Angeles area, it is on a lot of people’s minds these days.

Marin County Real Estate Market Report November 2017 | Trends & Market News

Regular readers of my Marin County real estate market report will note that the trend in past months has continued into October. The number of homes for sale was down 11.4% versus October 2016 with pricing up about 1% versus a year ago, both median pricing and average pricing. While I do not have a crystal ball, if this lack of inventory continues into spring we could see further upward pricing pressure, which will be good for sellers and potentially frustrating for buyers.

Marin County Real Estate Market Report October 2017 | Trends & Market News

Welcome to my Marin County Real Estate Market Report for October 2017. You may notice that I delayed publishing the report this month. I decided to wait until the terrible fires to our north in Sonoma and Napa were extinguished. My heartfelt condolences to all touched by this tragedy. There are many ways to help those suffering the after effects of the fire. One way is to go to Sonoma and Napa and patronize businesses. Another is to donate to an organization such as the Milo Foundation which rescued animals displaced by the fires. You may also donate to the North Bay Fire Relief Fund -- 100% of donations go to those in need with no overhead costs deducted.

Marin County Real Estate Market Report September 2017 | Trends & Market News

Welcome to my Marin County Real Estate Market Report for September 2017! Before we get to the report, some of you have inquired about my family in Florida and Georgia. I am happy to report they are all safe and suffered minimal damage. My thoughts are with those who are still suffering the effects of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. This is also a good reminder for us Californians to check our own emergency preparedness with the winter storms right around the corner.

Marin County Real Estate Market Report August 2017 | Trends & Market News

Welcome to my Marin County Real Estate Market Report for August 2017! Summer slowdown? Hardly! While the Marin County real estate market has slowed from its fever pitch in the spring, there is still plenty of activity out there. In fact, it was my busiest July ever. Of course I could not do this without you, and I truly appreciate your referrals and support.

Marin County Real Estate Market Report July 2017 | Trends & Market News

Welcome to my Marin County Real Estate Market Report for July 2017! Independence Day is behind us and summer is now in full swing. The numbers for June indicate more of the same in the Bay Area as well as the national real estate market -- less and less inventory which is driving pricing up. The number of homes newly listed in June 2017 was almost 20% lower than the number in 2016 while months of inventory are down 12.7%

Marin Bathroom Remodel: Tips and Photos | Marin County Remodels

A recently-remodeled bathroom can be a major asset when selling your home in Marin County, where buyers are willing to pay premium prices for properties that have been updated. Given the scarcity of new construction in our county, remodel dollars are often money well-spent. I thought I would share some photos of our own master bathroom remodel from a few years ago along with a few tips based on lessons learned during our own remodel. Forgive the quality of the photos -- when we started back in 2010, I had no idea it would be the subject of a blog in 2017!

Marin County Real Estate Market Report June 2017 | Trends & Market News

Welcome to my Marin County Real Estate Market Report for June 2017! Summer arrives this month and traditionally the market takes a bit of a breather while buyers and sellers are on holiday. We then often see a strong bump after Labor Day, though in 2016 this bump never quite materialized. Nationally, home sales declined in May, likely driven by inventory. Here in Marin County we saw a very strong May from a pricing perspective, while inventory continues to lag last year's numbers.

May 2017 Marin County Real Estate Market Report | Trends & Market News

Welcome to my Marin County Real Estate Market Report for May 2017! The spring real estate market in Marin County is now in full bloom along with all the flowers. My rose garden has awoken from its winter slumber with a dramatic display of blooms and new growth. The market is also at a fever pitch, with the only negative being lack of inventory, which is actually a national lament.
